Now, one of the reasons is that it is quite delicious.

However, at the same time, most people reach for this drink because they feel that it is a better alternative to sodas and sugar-laden drinks.

So, is this the case?

Is Arizona Green Tea healthy?

Does Arizona Green Tea Have Actual Green Tea?

According to the manufacturing company, Arizona Green tea does in fact contain green tea.

The brand goes onto say that the tea leaves are sourced from India and China.

The drink is brewed by using tea leaves.

However, there is no information on what kind of green tea is used or the level of processing that the leaves have undergone.

So, what does all this information mean for you and your body? Is Arizona green tea good for you?

Lets take a look if any of the benefits of green tea is translated when drinking Arizona Green Tea...

The Consequence of Added Sugars

What the nutrition label on Arizona Green Tea products show is that they each contain a multitude of other ingredients.

The most worrisome piece of news is that the tea contains all those added grams of sugar. Sure the drink doesn't contain added high fructose corn syrup, but the other kinds of sweeteners can be just as bad.

This is quite unlike what you would get if you were brewing a cup of natural green tea for yourself.

Keep in mind that added sugars are bad for your body and one of the top drivers for type 2 diabetes.

The continued spike in blood sugar levels due to such beverages can lead to a lifelong disease and long term consequences.

And, when you take a look at how much sugar the Arizona green tea contains, you will see that it is far more than anything that can be considered healthy.

For instance, the Good Brew and Ginseng and Honey version, contain around 15g of sugar per 8 fl. oz.

To put this into perspective, the American Heart Association recommends men to consume less than 36g of added sugars. Women should consume less than 25g.

This means that a single serving or per 8 fl. oz. of Arizona Green Tea makes up more than half of your recommended dose!

Is Honey Any Better? 

Now, an ingredient like honey is a naturally occurring substance.

It also don’t really take away from the nutrition value of the green tea.

However, honey does add unnecessary calories to the beverage. It also increases the added sugars.

Remember, your body can't distinguish between various types of sugar.

This means that even high fructose corn syrup and honey can cause your blood sugar levels to spike.

In fact, most doctors would recommend people with diabetes - particularly the type 2 version limit their honey intake as well.

It should also be noted that you dont really know about the type or origin of the honey. As such, it is difficult to determine if it is really as healthy as the company implies.

In general, it is best to minimize your consumption of any drinks including any kind of added sugars, regardless of whether it is high fructose corn syrup or not.

It can only hurt your body and health. 

Vitamin C and Citric Acid - Good or Bad? 

Now, citric acid is also a naturally occurring ingredient.

Although it is typically added for flavor or to extend the lifespan of food and drink, it does have some positive features.

For instance, it can help to slow kidney stone formation.

However, the quantity of citric acid in Arizona tea is unlikely to produce this effect and have a positive impact on your health or body.

Then, what about the vitamin C content - the Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey and Zero Calorie Green tea contain this ingredient.

Sure, the addition of vitamin C can be seen as a good thing, but there is a clincher.

First of all, the content of vitamin C isn't high enough to produce real health benefits.

Also, the vitamin C doesn't offset the multitude of other poor quality ingredients (sugar included) that have been added. 

Green Tea with Ginseng - Yay or Nay? 

You will often find Arizona Green touts the inclusion of ginseng in its drinks as a major selling point.

This is because ginseng has many reported health advantages.

This includes improved focus and a boost in body immunity.

Due to this, the Arizona Green with ginseng and honey version was one of the brand's top sellers.

However, some tests found that this drink didn't contain any ginseng at all, regardless of the serving size.

In fact, a lawsuit was filed regarding the ginseng content and the results are still being debated.

It isn't just the Ginseng and Honey drink, though. The brand has other drinks claiming to contain green tea with ginseng.

The Zero Calorie Green Tea and the Powder Stix all claim to contain ginseng.

However, if the green tea with ginseng claims aren't real, well then the associated health advantages can't be considered at all.

In reality, even if there is ginseng in the drinks, the amount per serving is unlikely to be much.

Furthermore, it is debatable about the source of the ginseng extract and whether or not it actually has a positive impact on your health.

Not to mention, if the company has purposefully misled people about the ginseng, it begs the question about what other lies it has told. 

Arizona Green Tea and Weight Loss 

One of the top reasons that people drink green tea is to hurry along the weight loss process.

See, natural green tea helps you to lose weight on several levels.

First, home brewed green teas, per 8 fl. oz., are calorie free.

So, you can often drink this instead of snacks to help keep your hunger at bay.

As mentioned, green tea contains antioxidants. Some of these play a role in boosting your metabolism and helping you to burn calories.

This effect is compounded by the caffeine in the green tea which also helps to increase energy levels and promote physical performance.

There is also the fact that green tea can be quite useful in mobilizing fat from cells and increasing fat burning during exercise.

Considering these effects, you have to wonder about the sugar-free or diet version of Arizona tea.

Can these help you to get rid of those pesky pounds?

Well, not really. To make up for the lack of added sugars, these collections contain an ingredient known as acesulfame potassium.

While this is a rather common artificial sweetener, it has been linked to gut issues.

There is also some evidence to prove that it can cause weight gain.

Needless to say, this isn’t something that you will want if you’re drinking Arizona Green Tea for weight loss.

There is also the fact that the amount of authentic green tea in an Arizona tea drink is far lower.

And, the quality isn't as great.

Due to this, the amount of antioxidants are lower as well.

Therefore, when you compare Arizona Green Tea to a regularly brewed cup of green tea or the best decaf green tea, it really does pale in comparison.

An Overview - Arizona Green Tea vs. Green Tea

OK, so you have seen quite a bit of information regarding the components that Arizona tea does and doesn't have.

However, let's look at this information as a whole and determine just how this drink measures up to real green tea.

The truth is that Arizona green tea isn't anything like the real deal.

While the main ingredient in Arizona brew may be green tea, it isn't the same as brewing yourself a cup of tea using tea leaves.

For one thing, natural green tea contains large amounts of flavonoids, antioxidants, and other beneficial components that promote long term health advantages.

However, with Arizona green tea, the amount of actual tea is less.

And, you can’t tell whether the leaves used were of a high quality. There is also no proper information on how the tea is brewed and whether any of the health advantages may have been lost in the process.

And, considering the shelf-life of the tea, there is a chance that many of the nutrients of the tea may be lost when you finally consume it.

Naturally, this reduces the long term benefits of green tea.

Of course, what is more concerning than anything else is the amount of sugar in even a small serving size of Arizona green tea.

As you are well aware, green tea contains no sugar.

As for the diet green tea version of Arizona, well, this contains additives that can compromise your health in the long run.

Even the ginseng and honey option isn't all that it is cracked up to be.

So, when it is all said and done, well-grown, naturally processed and well-brewed green tea leaves are the best drink for you.

Is Arizona Green Tea Bad for You?

Just because Arizona Green Tea doesn’t have health benefits doesn’t mean that it is automatically bad for you.

If you choose to enjoy the drink occasionally, you are unlikely to suffer from any side effects.

Just be mindful of not consuming too much in one go. The drinks do contain both sugar and caffeine.

Thus, the amount of drink consumed matters a great deal.

Nevertheless, it is a good idea to steer clear of the diet and sugar-free versions due to the inclusion of the artificial sweeteners.

Always read the nutrition label to know exactly how much of any drink you should be consuming. 

Is Arizona Green Tea Better Than Soda?

Of course, here’s the question that most people are interested in – is this drink better than soda at the very least?

Well, when it comes to sugar content, not exactly.

On average, 12-ounces of soda boasts around 39g of sugar. As you can see, Arizona Ginseng and Honey comes pretty close.

Of course, some types of Arizona Green Tea don't have nearly as many artificial ingredients as soda.

So, in this sense, it could be a marginally healthier option.

However, if you are looking for a healthy alternative to a soft drink or one with fewer sugars, it appears that you will need to keep looking.

Either that or stick to natural drinks such as water, matcha, orange juice, or something similar.
